The challenge
Cari needed a cover for her newest eBook, Risen from Low Places. She wanted the cover to be black, white, and red with the main font to look “lean, but strong.”
Project highlights
Cari wanted a dark door to convey the theme and emotional content of Risen from Low Places. Which is why the night before the Blizzard of 2011, I was driving around town and frequenting alleyways to take photos of doors for the cover. Photoshop was used to touch up the door (removing the peep hole and mail slot) and to create the light spilling out from its edges.
To emphasize Cari’s triumph over depression, I made the word “Risen” in the title more prominent using Market Deco font by Steve Ferrera. Placing “from Low Places” (in Eras Light ITC) underneath “Risen” reinforces their relative positions. The personal nature of her story is depicted by using handwriting font (Journal by Fontourist) for the subtitle.
Much gratitude goes out to Gagan who developed the Photoshop action set used to create the 3-D cover featured on Cari’s website. Click here to learn more.
