“Oh, you’ve got everything, too.” She smiled at me, indicating the package of everything bagels in her hands.
“Yeah, I like the garlic,” I admitted, and we were off.
“The only thing is the nuts and stuff get stuck in my teeth.”
“Yeah, I don’t like the seeds either.”
“Now, my kids, they want me to get this for them,” she lofted a loaf of bread, “Honey wheat. Everyone wants something different.”
“Isn’t that always the way?”
“Oh, you know it! But everything bagels, mmm. I get some cream cheese, and some peach jelly, and I put it on there and, oh honey!, I’m set for the day.” And then she shoved her cart further down the aisle, off to finish her shopping list.
Now I know why they’re called everything bagels: they really do come with everything, right down to the friendly interaction in the grocery store.
The Return of Good Done
I wouldn’t say that yesterday was a bad day, but the above moment of warmth in the grocery store was well-needed. Have you ever wondered, what if we didn’t treat each other like strangers anymore?
I’m grateful to have this platform for sharing stories of good again. Since deciding that Good Done would return as an occasional feature on the blog, I immediately recognized a change in my thinking. My appreciation of others is heightened. My expectation that situations can improve is solidified. And my eagerness to share it all is overflowing.
And maybe you’ve noticed moments of good done? In fact, maybe you’d like to share it in the comment section below, or even write a guest post? I’m thinking this is a powerful idea worth exploring.
