The challenge
A photo of Malvina’s daughter and future son-in-law (from the day they first met) needed new life.
Project highlights
We were again working from a print, so the photo was first scanned, cropped, and touched up.
Black marker was originally used to try to correct red eye, so the daughter’s eyes had to be completely reconstructed, which was done using the brush tool and applying an Add Noise filter. The son-in-law’s red eye was corrected using Photoshop’s sponge and burn tools.
Malvina felt the background was distracting, so we tried two fixes: 1) blurring the background and 2) replacing the background with a solid fill.
We ended up going with a black background (in this case cloned from the shadow portions of the original photo), then did a hue/saturation adjustment create a vintage 1940s feel to the photo. To see the end result, roll over to see photo. (Thanks for being patient–it may take a few moments.)
