What a fun word. Slalom! And definitely descriptive of my course in life. I don’t just barrel down the hill, I take in the whole lateral expanse. I explore, peruse, and consider. I approach things from the side instead of head-on. I come in through the back door. Every back door.
And it catches people off guard. I wonder if they can’t relate to touching on a lot of different things in life, if they really have bought into having one-major/one-career/one-hobby/one-perspective. Can someone really enjoy multiple things equally, and feel comfortable zigzagging between them, often on a whim, they wonder incredulously? I think I do. When asked recently what I was most interested in, photography, writing, or graphic design, I replied sincerely, “Well, what day of the week is it?” Because on one day my passion for photography grabs me and drags me past another flag in the snow. Whereas the next day I’m completely convinced that I haven’t got a lick of talent behind the camera and I better bank on writing, which wells within me sometimes, an avalanche of expression. But if I wipe out in either of those pursuits, I can herringbone up my steep learning curve of graphic design, the latest creation of which you can see to the right.
I find ways to juggle and nest the three, thinking that in addition to placating the urges within, so much enthusiasm across so many areas should increase my marketability. I’m your one-stop shop for all things that could be related if you squint and use your imagination a bit.
So welcome to the journey. Just mind the moguls along the way.
