Abandoning my humita and Fanta, I sprinted up a stairway that opened out onto a pigeon-infested balcony with a view of the Summer Solstice celebrations at Mitad del Mundo. Canopy supports and light poles obstructed my shots, forcing me to pitch my camera into angles I hadn’t yet risked, and focus on expressions over compositions.
